"Slinky was named by suggestion from a community member at the Western Welcome Week
Concert held at the Littleton Museum with the final name selection made by the artist Randy
Hand. The caterpillar’s home in Sterne Park has long been a central gathering place for the
Littleton community which was selected for its attraction to children observing wildlife,
visibility, and complements to other sculptures in the park. Slinky gets his color from an acrylic wash applied while the bronze was hot and a lacquer on top to keep the color vibrant. The whimsical character was intended for the children of the city to explore while adventuring in the park."
