Flood Story
Flood Story is located east of the Mineral Avenue pedestrian bridge near the Carson Nature Center in South Platte Park. The 14-foot tall sculpture represents the peak depth of the 1965 floodwaters.
"South metro area nature lovers were in South Platte Park February 23, 2011 to celebrate the nearly $1 million in improvements funded by a Great Outdoors Colorado Legacy grant. Contributors included the City of Littleton, South Suburban Parks and Recreation and Arapahoe County Open Space.
A new entrance gate represents the river with live plants and cobbles launching into the sky. There is a refurbished landscape at the Carson Nature Center with new plants and pathways, and a water feature. The building received significant energy improvements including insulation and a 92 percent energy efficiency furnace. A new restroom at Blackrock Lake has been installed and the building also provides shelter from the weather.
At the ceremony, left to right were: Ellen Belef, Arapahoe County Open Space & Trails Advisory Board; SSPR Board Member Sue Rosser; Marc Scott, Arapahoe County Open Space & Trails Advisory Board; SSPR Board Members Pam Eller and John Ostermiller, Mayor Doug Clark, SSPR Board Member Kay Geitner, Mayor Pro Tem Debbie Brinkman, Arapahoe County Commissioner Susan Beckman, and Council Member Peggy Cole." --from City of Littleton Asset Bank text, 2022.
