The exhibition borrows its title from Juhani Pallasmaa’s book, The Thinking Hand: Existential and Embodied Wisdom in Architecture. Throughout this influential text, Pallasmaa analyzes, “the essence of the hand and its seminal role in the evolution of human skills, intelligence and conceptual capacities,” and proposes that, rather than the mind being the solitary control center of imagination, “….perhaps, it is the hand that really imagines as it exists in the flesh of the world, the reality of space, matter and time, the very physical condition of the imagined object.” Artists are encouraged to submit 2D, 3D or time-based works that engage physical processes, material exploration and/or new approaches to traditional techniques as foundational elements in building form, meaning and/or narrative in the artwork.

We invite you to submit your work to the 22nd DongGang International Photo Festival, to be held this year from July 12th to September 29th, 2024 in Yeongwol, Gangwon State, Korea.
This year's theme;
Silently Loud
From nature's perspective, humanity itself is a form of hell. That is because of the tendency of humans to objectify and judge everything according to their own standards, thereby ignoring the natural world's intrinsic order. This one-sided disregard for the non-human elements around us is another form of disconnection and isolation, which can be seen as a definition of hell. Despite this, nature maintains a remarkable selflessness. It is driven solely by the instinct for survival, unmoved by human perspectives. To humans, nature’s struggle for survival seems unforgiving akin to the concept of hell. What if we shifted our perspective to see nature from its own vantage point and cultivated an attitude in harmony with it? Then, we would realize that nature has never been hellish, not for an instant.
Humans at times fail to acknowledge the presence of nature. We are inherently part of nature, yet often, we elevate ourselves to the status of the main characters, forgetting our intrinsic connection to the natural world. From birth, nature serves as a backdrop, an external influence shaping our lives. Yet, this omnipresent environment leads us to prioritize ourselves, neglecting nature in the process.
This competition aims to take a closer look at the existential boundaries and lives of humans from an ecosystem perspective, focusing on highlighting our interconnectedness. It is our hope that the beautiful relationship between humans and nature, expressed through photography, will come to fruition and be manifested on a greater scale.
Individuals and collectives are welcome to apply;
individuals should submit between 8 - 12 photographs from a particular series or body of work.
Selected 15 - 20 artists including ‘Artist of the year’ (individual artist or 1 team of winner) will benefit from:

Opened in 2014, the park’s gentle walkway curves around a pond, showcasing view of local wildlife and artwork, like the painted PVC pipes of “The Trees of Life” that rise from the water, and Buddy Olson’s giant welded steel bear named “Ursus.”
We now invite the next generation of artists to exhibit their work in our public park.

What is art in the 21st century? What Makes It Valuable?
The discourse on the nature of art in the 21st century has never been more intriguing. While some creators remain firmly rooted in the traditions of their craft, others boldly venture into uncharted territories, invoking a constant debate around the central question - What Is Art? What makes it valuable?
In the modern art world, it's evident that success doesn't adhere to a single style or approach. The diverse paths taken by some of the world's most renowned and affluent artists underscore the idea that every unique style of art can become valuable.
This exhibition is designed not merely to showcase art but to stimulate conversation between divergent paths within contemporary art. The aim is to prove that success in the art world is not a monolithic concept but a spectrum of possibilities, each as valid and valuable as the next.
For the grand opening of this exhibition on June 7th, we are honored to host one of the world's foremost art experts, Tabish Khan. He will share his unique insights and illuminate the nuances of contemporary art at this seminal event.
Tabish Khan stands as a pillar for democratizing art access. As a prominent art critic deeply embedded in London's art scene, he is the visual arts editor for Londonist and a staple contributor to Culture Whisper. Through his weekly top 5 exhibitions for FAD, Khan continually sheds a light on the top exhibitions to see. His dedication transcends just critiques, Khan actively supports institutions like ArtCan, City & Guilds London Art School, and Discerning Eye, championing artists and exhibitions.
Gallery Space:
Our gallery is located in the vibrant heart of the iconic Tower Bridge area in London. An elegant blend of historical richness and modern energy, our space serves as an extraordinary platform for artists and audiences alike.

- Location: NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA 70130, United States
FERRARA SHOWMAN GALLERY proudly hosts the 28th iteration of our annual call for artists - NO DEAD ARTISTS: International Juried Exhibition of Contemporary Art. The call is open through 17 JUNE 2024 and the exhibition participants are selected by an ever-changing group of three prestigious arts professionals. The exhibition itself is installed in the gallery for the entire month of September and first-half of October with an opening reception in conjunction with the Arts District New Orleans’ First Saturday Gallery Openings in September 2024 from 5-9 pm.
The exhibition was created in 1995 to give a voice to emerging artists. NO DEAD ARTISTS has become an exhibition that has time and again discovered new and emerging talent and is one of the most celebrated art exhibitions in the South. The exhibition’s name is derived from the old adage that artists never achieve success until they are dead. NO DEAD ARTISTS turns that notion on its head and gives emerging artists their first break in the art world. In the ’90s, the exhibition was open only to New Orleans artists and subsequently grew to include artists of Louisiana. In 2010, the exhibition expanded to become a national juried exhibition open to artists from the entire United States and the call went international in 2014.
The exhibition has been a springboard for numerous artists leading to national press coverage, recognition, gallery representation and acquisitions by museums and other prominent collections. Each year the gallery invites a panel of renowned arts professionals and collectors to select the newest creative talents.
NO DEAD ARTISTS is an INTERNATIONAL OPEN CALL FOR ARTISTS, open to living artists of all ages, emerging and established, working throughout the world. All mediums are accepted including, but not limited to, painting, sculpture, design, glass, metalwork, photography, video, performance, mixed media and installation art.
A single application may contain up to FIVE artworks for consideration. Each submission is allowed up to three additional detail images per artwork. All images must be in .jpg format and videos in .mov format - high resolution files around 1MB are preferred. All works must be for sale to be included in the exhibition.
Any winning entry will be subject to a standard 50% gallery sales commission in the event that it is sold and should be priced accordingly.
The artist is responsible for ALL shipping costs including return shipping of all unsold work and import/export duties and taxes.

Art Ability provides positive role models for people with disabilities while increasing their access to the arts. The program successfully develops new markets for artists with disabilities where they can gain recognition for their technical skill and artistic vision.
The annual exhibit and sale will be on display at Bryn Mawr Rehab Hospital in Malvern, Pennsylvania, from November 3, 2024 to January 26, 2025 and will be open to the public during the hospital's visiting hours. The event will kick off with a ticketed preview party and fundraising dinner on Saturday, November 2, 2024.
Application Requirements
Each artist should submit work through the CaFE website: callforentry.org. Interested artists are required to create a free CaFE profile to apply. There is no entry fee for the Art Ability call and artist profiles can be created and saved for future use. Artists with saved profiles should check to confirm contact information is still accurate.
Applicants are invited to submit up to 6 (six) separate works of art for consideration, uploading 1 (one) JPEG (.jpg) image of each to the CaFE site. If necessary, a detail may be uploaded as one of the six. Images must be uploaded to the artist’s profile prior to completing a call for entry. Applications also require title of work, medium, size, year completed, and price. Be sure the size and selling price is a reflection of the artwork framed. Refer to specific finishing guidelines under the Eligibility section of this document.
The exhibit is displayed in a rehab hospital. Please consider the subject matter prior to submitting artwork. Nudes and dark subject matter will not be accepted, regardless of artistic merit. If you would like the curator to review your submissions prior to submitting your artwork, please email your images to [email protected] for feedback.
Depending on a variety of factors, the online submission process may take up to two hours to prepare images and submit the application. Applicants are strongly urged to allow time for any unforeseen technical difficulties. Applications can be saved and updated at any time prior to the submission deadline of June 30, 2024.
Art centers and groups: A separate profile and valid email address is required for each submitting artist. Each artist’s submissions should reflect the person’s individual creativity. Multiple renditions of the same subject matter, such as a class assignment, will not be accepted. In addition to the artist's contact information, please include the name and address of the art center or group on application.
We look forward to seeing your work!
