As a fervent abstract expressionist, Minnesota-based Gena Cohen infuses her mixed media oil paintings with a visceral, bold, and honest quality, employing a highly intuitive process marked by a vibrant color palette and alluring textures. Her creations go beyond conventional boundaries, often incorporating mirror, copper, and other materials that interact with light – a nod to her self-proclaimed "obsession" with the sun. Reflecting an autobiographical journey, her art evolves with intentional and intuitive meanings manifested through the diverse application of materials.
Beyond the visual aesthetics, Cohen's artistic process holds a significant spiritual and emotional dimension, acting as a means of personal healing. Working out of her Minnetonka studio, she dedicates herself to daily artistic expression.
'Illumine' is a collection of Cohen’s latest work that stands as a testament to the transformative potential of art, where the interplay of materials and emotions converges to shed light on the multi-faceted human experience.
